Team Solar Fam made a visit to Mikhalai School of Destiny (MSOD) which is located at the 2nd floor of Wisma Heap Lee, sharing the same premise as a church. We were welcomed by the presence of the children and the founder of the school, Ms Mikhalai Steve. The team proposed our community service project and the intention to collaborate with the school to raise funds in these trying times. We were briefed about the mission of the school which was to ensure that every child is able to identify their identity and purpose in this generation. Whereas, the vision of the school was to equip every student with education as it is able to change their destiny in the future. In addition, it was also brought to our attention that the school is looking at expanding the study space to accommodate more students who are either undocumented or hailed from a broken family.

In light of COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students in MSOD is expected to increase from 43 to 60 student which comprise boys and girls aged from 7 to as old as 18 years old. As such, the school would require more studying equipment such as tables, chairs, whiteboards and also study materials to ensure that all the students are able to have a conducive studying environment.

Aside from the school, MSOD also provides accommodation and food to these children. We were kindly invited to the boys and girls hostel which was located just behind the school. The hostel is able to accommodate approximately 20 students with 2 caretakers. From our observation, the hostel looks clean and provides sufficient space for the children to rest and settle down.
