The team conducted a virtual interview on Zoom call with the children of MSOD. The purpose of this interview was to know about their well being and the challenges faced while studying in MSOD. We interviewed a total of 6 children which consist of 5 boys and 1 girl (Gloria). From the interview, we learned about their life before joining MSOD and how it has changed tremendously since then. One of the boys named Xander, 16 who was born in the Philippines said he used to be misguided in his beliefs which affected his studies and life in general. After joining MSOD, he had a purpose as he was guided with proper beliefs by the teachers. Another important lesson was friendship as these children are taught to trust each other and depend on one another just like a family. In addition, discipline was also emphasized in shaping the character among the children as it is important to guide them through the challenges they faced in life. With the right beliefs and discipline, the children are able to make important decisions in life. As for Emmanuel,16, and Mark, 16, they came from a vernacular school which resulted in their inability to converse in English but now they have learned how to speak and write the English language in their studies. The team noticed that all the children were very motivated to learn and have big dreams such as to become an engineer, businessman, and IT programmers. However, due to the recent pandemic of COVID-19, the children’s learning process was slightly affected due to the movement control order (MCO). As a result, digitalisation was needed to replace the conventional method of teaching and this caused some difficulties to adapt to this new form of learning among the children. The lack of resources such as computers, tablets or internet connection also contributed to their slowed down learning process. Therefore, the team will be looking at this opportunity to source for sponsors to provide the children with the necessary studying tools and gadgets to ensure that the children can continue their studies.
